Selection considerations
What a sheath compound does
The cable leads that leave a module's junction box and run across the array are built in layers: a conductor, an insulation layer and an outer sheath. The sheath faces sunlight, weather, abrasion and handling during installation, so the compound it is extruded from carries much of the cable's outdoor life. The cable itself is made in a cable plant, yet it ends up in the module: it becomes part of PV cable components, connects to junction-box components and is terminated in PV connector assembly. That is why this class sits under module assembly.
The listed grade
TGWH5200 PV cable sheath compound from Zhejiang Taihu Yuanda New Material is supplied as granules for the outer sheath. Taihu Yuanda publishes minimum indicators beside typical results, together with extrusion and cure settings for a first trial, and the compound is mixed from A and B components before extrusion.
Quote and accept against the minimum indicator column. Typical results describe a good batch; the indicator column is what every delivery has to meet.
Planning a line trial
Before the first extrusion run, get the current grade sheet and written mixing instructions, and make sure your dosing equipment can hold the A/B ratio steadily over a long run. Agree the cure route with Taihu Yuanda and a test that shows the cure has finished, since an under-cured sheath may pass a quick check and fail later.
For reading ageing claims and lot certificates, see how to qualify PV module materials. Qualify the complete cable, insulation and sheath together, not the sheath on its own. Weathering and heat ageing are usually run in chambers from environmental test equipment, and the finished leads take part in module-level insulation checks on module electrical safety testing equipment. The testing and inspection stage gathers the other checks a cable buyer may want to plan.
Keep the batch number of each compound delivery linked to the cable reels produced from it, so any field complaint can be traced back to a specific lot. Carrying those lot numbers through production is covered in traceability and MES interfaces.
Plan the equipment scope
Identify the production step, cell or module format and output unit before comparing equipment. Use the listed source, scope and specifications to prepare a configuration-specific enquiry. Missing values are left unspecified and do not count as exact filter matches.
TGWH5200 is a silane-crosslinked low-smoke, halogen-free compound for extruding the outer sheath of UL4703 PV cable. Its grade sheet lists 11.5 MPa typical tensile strength against a 10.3 MPa minimum and a typical oxygen index of 33%. Extrusion runs at 110–130°C in the barrel and 130–135°C at the head. The compound ships as component A in 25 kg bags and component B in 5 kg bags.
