PV connector assembly

Find machinery by production stage and the requirements of your line.

Selection considerations

What connector assembly covers

A PV connector joins module cables to each other and to the array wiring. It is made from several small parts: a housing, a metal contact, seals, a thrust ring and a cap nut, typically supplied as moulded and stamped parts. An assembly machine fits these parts together in a fixed order and checks each step, so the finished connector can be crimped onto cable and fitted to a junction box. Sourcing the parts themselves belongs under PV cable components and PV module junction-box components; the cable sheath material sits under PV cable manufacturing compounds.

Assembled connectors usually travel on the junction-box leads into module assembly, where a station such as the HORAD junction-box mounting station fixes the box to the module on a module production line.

The machine in this class

The listed machine is the PV connector automatic assembly machine from Ningbo Hongsheng. It assembles connectors from six part types, checks each station and confirms that the thrust ring is seated. Hongsheng lists an output of 20 sets/minute or more and sells the machine by description rather than by model number, so your purchase order needs to carry the full scope in writing, including the trial plan described in the guide to equipment trials, FAT and SAT.

What to settle before you order

Start with a revision-controlled parts list and a drawing of the finished connector, including both male and female versions. Ask Hongsheng how the machine changes over between polarities and how long that takes. Agree which faults each station detects, for example a missing seal or a misplaced ring, and what happens to a rejected set. Where a camera makes the call, the machine vision buying guide lists the test samples to prepare.

Run the trial on your own incoming parts, because moulding tolerances from your part supplier drive feeding problems more than the nominal rate does. Count accepted sets over a shift, including restarts after jams. If your quality system needs serial data, ask how the machine exchanges records with your MES; the guide on line traceability and MES interfaces covers what to put in the interface specification.

Checking finished connectors

Assembly checks confirm that parts are present and seated. Electrical and mechanical performance of the finished connector is a separate test step; plan it with module electrical safety testing and, where appearance matters, a visual inspection station on the output side.

Plan the equipment scope

Identify the production step, cell or module format and output unit before comparing equipment. Use the listed source, scope and specifications to prepare a configuration-specific enquiry. Missing values are left unspecified and do not count as exact filter matches.

Read equipment buying guides or prepare a sourcing brief.

PV connector automatic assembly machine

Hongsheng's PV connector assembly machine fits six parts into a finished connector: body, O-ring, rubber plug, cage component, thrust ring and nut. It handles positive and negative connectors, checks every station for missing parts, sorts good from rejected units and has a reserved MES port. Hongsheng lists 20 sets/minute or more. Quote it against your connector bill of materials and run a trial on your own parts.
