Module electrical safety testing

Find machinery by production stage and the requirements of your line.

Selection considerations

What the station checks

Module electrical safety testing confirms that a finished module is insulated and grounded well enough to ship and install. The usual set is a DC withstand-voltage test between the circuit and the frame, an insulation-resistance measurement, and a ground-resistance check on the frame. The station belongs to the testing and inspection stage and comes after the laminator has sealed the stack, framing has fitted the frame and the junction box is in place. It normally runs next to visual inspection near the end of the module line, while qualification of new materials belongs to environmental testing.

Why upstream materials matter

An insulation failure usually points back to the stack: a thin spot or cut in the backsheet, cells too close to the edge, or voids in the encapsulation film. Log each failure with its position so quality staff can trace it to layup, lamination or edge trimming. Ground-resistance failures often lead to frame corner keys, anodised contact points or a missing earthing hole.

What to specify

List the tests, voltages and pass limits from your own module test plan, and say whether the frame is grounded through a dedicated contact or through the tooling. Ask for tester ranges, accuracy, calibration interval and calibration certificates for the instruments actually delivered. Give operator safety equal weight: interlocked guarding, discharge after the withstand step and a clear emergency stop. Agree how results are stored against each module serial number through your MES link and how failed modules leave the line. Confirm the earthing, supply and floor space the station needs with the installation and utilities guide, and set test time per module against your line pace using the throughput comparison note.

The listed station

The directory lists the HORAD module electrical-test station from Suzhou HORAD New Energy Equipment. It clamps the test supply to the module, positive pole to the tooling and negative to the panel edges, and runs withstand-voltage, insulation-resistance and ground-resistance checks automatically in one station. Bring your test plan and grounding choice, and ask HORAD to state in writing the tester ranges, accuracy, calibration and interlocks it supplies. At FAT and SAT, run reference modules with known faults so every test is seen to fail as well as pass.

Plan the equipment scope

Identify the production step, cell or module format and output unit before comparing equipment. Use the listed source, scope and specifications to prepare a configuration-specific enquiry. Missing values are left unspecified and do not count as exact filter matches.

Read equipment buying guides or prepare a sourcing brief.

HORAD module electrical-test station

This HORAD station runs automatic DC withstand-voltage, insulation-resistance and ground-resistance tests on finished modules and sounds a light and buzzer alarm when one fails. Grounding is by four corners or, for frameless panels, foam on all four sides. HORAD titles it Testing Jig Return System. Machine power is 4 kW; test voltages, limits, dwell times and accuracy come with your test plan.
