Tony diamond wire is a coated product, so order it that way
Tony fixes diamond particles onto carbon-steel or tungsten wire, which a slicing machine then uses to cut hard brittle materials. In photovoltaics, Tony names mono- and multicrystalline silicon. The abrasive coating belongs in your product definition, and a quote that gives only a core size leaves out key requirements.
The official photo shows several spools with no grade, size or length labels. Spool colour tells you nothing about which core family arrives. Write the exact finished wire and the documents you expect into both the sample order and the production order.

Four measurements to request from Tony
Core diameter
Ask for the exact diameter offered within the family range, its tolerance and how it is measured. Also ask whether each size in the range is a standard product and how diameter is held along the length of a spool.
Particles and coating
The 5–8 μm figure covers the particles only. Request the particle distribution for your grade, the coating build, retention checks and acceptance criteria. Adding particle size to core size gives no reliable outer diameter.
Mechanical data
Ask for breaking force and elongation of the coated wire and the test conditions behind them. Tony describes strength in words, so the maximum running tension and a safe saw recipe have to come from Tony directly.
Spool and length
Send your saw's spool and winding needs and ask Tony to state the wire length, which way it is wound, how the ends are finished and how spools should be handled. The spool in the photo is artwork, so request an interface drawing.

A slicing trial plan for Tony wire
Write the baseline
Record silicon type, block size, target wafer thickness, the wire you run now, saw setup and quality limits. Agree which core sizes and grades go into the trial.
Agree the trial settings
Ask Tony for the tension, speed, feed and coolant settings it supports for the offered wire on your saw. Check the spool fit and handling limits as well, since the webpage gives no such figures.
Measure what matters
Measure breakage, usable wafers, thickness variation, surface and edge quality and wire use with methods you approve. Include setup losses and rejected pieces in the totals.
Lock the lot specification
Tie the passed sample to its core, coating, spool and lot papers. Agree which changes Tony must announce and retest, including any material or process substitution. Keep the trial record as the reference for production orders.

Lead time and the right Tony contact
Tony's 2025 annual report says its diamond-wire production fell substantially. The filing describes a past year, and whether lines are idle or have room for new orders today is a question for Tony. Ask for current grade availability, the producing entity, sample timing, order quantity and firm delivery terms.
Ask Tony for its PV wire sales or technical contact. The public mailbox on its website is marked for investors.

Tony diamond wire: common buyer questions
Is tungsten core wire the same as Tony's tungsten diamond wire?
No. The cutting product has diamond particles fixed to the core. Make sure your quote names the coated product.
Can I work out silicon savings by subtracting core sizes?
Tony gives no kerf figure or matched trial. Judge savings on accepted wafers, quality and total consumption in a controlled run.
Does adding particle size give the outer diameter?
No. Tony lists core diameter and particle size as separate figures. Ask for measured finished-wire geometry and coating data.
What breakage rate does Tony quote?
Tony describes low breakage in words, with no percentage or test conditions attached. Measure it in your own trial.
Are the spools in the photo what I will receive?
They are product artwork. Sample results, current lots and the contracting company are settled in your direct dealings with Tony.
