HORAD precision EVA cutting and placement station

Suzhou HORAD New Energy Equipment Co., Ltd. ↗

Two knives, one above the film and one below, trim each EVA sheet on all four sides before it is laid on the glass. HORAD says the fine cut can reach ±0.5 mm. Film pull is corrected automatically, and a hot-melt splice changes rolls in under 50 seconds.

HORAD publishes this as a product family with no model code. Its table covers the cut figure, splice timing, glass sizes, power, air, machine size and mass. Corner-angle tolerance, knife life and a full roll and film list are missing, so request them with the offer.

General illustration of module assembly equipment, not a photograph of this model. Ask the manufacturer for current photographs and layout drawings of the configuration offered.

START WITH YOUR PRODUCTION TASK

Pick this station over the standard EVA unit when you need four trimmed edges. Send the cut drawing and film details, then judge cutting and placement as two separate results, and run a roll change with your own splice rule.

What the two knives do

HORAD describes cutting the encapsulant film on four sides and laying it in one pass, using an upper and a lower knife. An automatic correction step keeps the film straight as it is pulled. The ±0.5 mm figure belongs to the fine cut; for placement HORAD only says accuracy is high.

Rolls are joined by hot-melt splicing in under 50 seconds, and HORAD says the station keeps working through a material change. Yield, test conditions and expected knife life are not listed, so put them on your list of questions for the quotation.

Checking a four-side cut

  • Edges and corners

Send the cut shape with length, width and the corner finish you accept. Agree which edges are the reference, how much skew is allowed and what film damage counts as a reject. The overhang left by the cut also affects how the film flows at the module edge in the laminator.

  • Film as delivered

Test with the grade, thickness, roll and core you will buy, stored the way your plant stores it. A tight cut figure on one film says little about another encapsulant or an old roll.

  • Knives and splices

Ask how both knives are set, sharpened and replaced, and how often. Agree whether a spliced section is scrapped and how a roll change affects sheet size and position. HORAD also builds a flattening and fixing unit that tacks laid film with heat if sheets shift after placement.

Sign off the cut first, then placement

  1. Lock the cutting drawing

Write down sizes, reference edges, measuring conditions and sample counts for each real film and glass format.

  2. Measure sample sheets

Check all four sides and corners with new knives and with knives that have run an agreed time, taking film from the start, middle and end of a roll.

  3. Measure placed sheets on their own

Check position against the glass, plus wrinkles and skew. Set a placement limit of its own; the ±0.5 mm figure is a cutting value. Laid film then waits for strings at the layup station, so a wrinkle found here costs less to fix than one found later.

  4. Change a roll and recover

Run a real splice, watch buffer output and scrap, and stop the next station to see the restart. Then freeze the film, knife, setup and recovery records.

Questions on the precision station

Is placement also ±0.5 mm?

HORAD gives that figure for the fine cut only and describes placement in words. Agree a placement limit separately.

Will it cut POE or EPE?

The page has no full material list. Ask HORAD to approve each film in writing and trial it.

How long do the knives last?

No knife life is listed. Ask for sharpening and replacement intervals for the film you will run.
